New Recruits For Season 2020

New Lakies recruits will suit up in 2020, including new faces James Laidlaw, Tom McKechnie and Brody Gilbert.

Laidlaw has joined Learmonth from Wimmera league outfit Ararat, where he started in 13 senior games last year. He will fill a starting midfield role, left by Kyle Mackay who departs for Geelong.

McKechnie is also an exciting addition to the ranks after playing five senior matches for Lake Wendouree in the BFl in 2019 and 13 the year before that. A great asset to have as a young ruckman will provide relief for Best 7 Fairest winner James Pratt.

Brody Gilbert is a out of the Under 19s, also from Lake Wendouree, and joins other mates whom already play at Learmonth. He is part of the junior group that will provide new faces and enthusiasm for the Senior group.

I am focused on developing our young Senior players, from the new under 18s to the 21, 22 year olds that now have 30 – 50 games under their belt. It’s a really exciting young group.

There is also hope that Carmody and Buchanan will continue to play throughout the season at different stages, post Luke Hodge. Both Carmody and Buchanan have Victorian Football League experience and most recently played with Ocean Grove and Geelong Amateur respectively.
